The War in Sudan Determines How It Ends – The Face of Truth – ✍️ Ibrahim Shaqlawi

The Sudanese were not surprised by their government's response to the invitation extended by the United States of America to negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland, between the army… and the rebels of the Rapid Support Forces…; This is based on the clear signals sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after receiving the invitation…; The Undersecretary of the Ministry stated that the response to the invitation would be in form and substance… and this reserved and mild diplomatic language contained clear indications that the invitation was based on errors that overlooked important aspects…; Neither the insight of the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs nor that of observers of Sudanese political or military affairs would have escaped this.

The Sudanese government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responded in detail to the invitation, thanking all sincere efforts to end the war and affirming its willingness to move towards peace. If there is a commitment to the Jeddah platform, which approved the exit of civilian property and citizens' homes…; In addition to opening safe paths and roads for the arrival of humanitarian aid..; It also affirmed its adherence to the ceasefire as a priority. The government also stressed the need to consult it on the form and agenda of the negotiations and the parties participating or attending them. It also requested a meeting with the United States of America to organize good negotiations.

In my opinion, this response that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent to the American mediator…; It confirms that there are still good indicators to stop the war and achieve peace if the important observations made by the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs find interest on the part of the parties to the mediation. Far from the pressures and forms of blackmail that do not advance the interests of the Sudanese…; To the extent that it works to establish the interests of those who support the war at the regional and international levels…;

The Sudanese people, while yearning for peace and the return of security and stability after all this suffering, are also eager to establish peace on solid foundations that close the door to any possibility of a return to war. A clear vision of the peace process that allows all parties to adhere to it, support it and implement its provisions.

In addition, we have been following in the last two days the attempted assassination of the chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council and the commander of the army at the Jebeit military base via two drones… where he was attending the graduation of army officers. College…; This incident cost the lives of a number of civilians as well as three officers, according to the army statement. This was classified by some as part of a series of pressures on the army leadership to enter into negotiations or to soften their positions that oppose negotiations on a new platform… other than that of Jeddah.

The incident revealed the shame among Sudan’s friends for not condemning or denouncing this attempt, while a number of countries, including Arab or international organizations, have avoided declaring their clear condemnation of the attempted assassination of the head of state, commander of the Sudanese army, for several reasons. Among them, there may be overlapping political interests…; Or consider the matter as an internal affair…; Or perhaps these countries are under pressure from international actors not to give Sudan an advantage in the face of the internal rebellion…; In any case, the order of non-condemnation remains unacceptable to the Sudanese people, who have remained present alongside all friendly and brotherly countries in all their affairs that require solidarity. Even at the level of internal incidents that threaten the lives of individuals… this incident threatens the head of state… positive situations were expected…; Through declared and undeclared diplomatic channels.

However, the issue of peace in Sudan remains important and necessary and deserves efforts from all actors. In recent days, we have followed intense activity between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt at the level of foreign ministers. We have also followed the good deeds of the American envoy Tom Perillo…; Who confirmed that they would not sit back and watch the Sudanese continue to die…; Likewise, Blinken's meeting over the past two days with his Emirati counterpart, Abdullah bin Zayed, who discussed the situation in Sudan and its humanitarian repercussions; As well as the intense activity of the IGAD organization, which announced that it would continue its efforts and constant contacts with President Burhan and with the rebel leader Hemedti to stop the war.. as well as the meeting of the Egyptian president with the president of Chad in Cairo to stop the war.

There is also talk here and there about a conference that would be held soon in Addis Ababa to discuss humanitarian issues, war issues and political issues between Sudanese and international actors. In my opinion, all these efforts are good if the intentions are sincere. to stop the war away from the goals of political gain and regional and international interests. The Sudanese have become… They realize the magnitude of the plan targeting their state entity…; That is why they do not accept a half-victory in a war whose end was determined by the widespread violations that accompanied it, in addition to the war crimes and crimes against humanity proven by a number of international organizations… which were found on the bodies of civilians in front of their property… because it recalled the history of wars of ethnic cleansing and killings on the basis of identity…; Therefore, everyone must support the principle of security and just peace in our country for the sake of Sudan and the Sudanese. Until the door is completely closed to any possibility of a return to war… or to a new political conflict.

May you always be well..
