UNICEF… The culture of white has been harvested ✍️ Al-Zein Kendwa

_ Reportedly, at the beginning of the year (1987 AD), the hand pump digging project, funded by UNICEF and its international and national partners, was transferred from South Sudan States to the Greater States Kordofan to fight thirst. A large number of pumps were dug in the town of El Obeid and its surroundings, and the project helped at the time to reduce thirst, in the late 90s water was supplied to El Obeid from from the underground basin of Bara, and the water was transported. also delivered from southern sources. Most residents of El Obeid got rid of hand pumps, but some areas continued to rely on them (the villages of Khor Taqat, for example).

_ After the outbreak of the ill-fated April 15 War and the entry of the rebellion into the borders of Al-Abyad, the water sources (north and south) were affected either by the fluctuation of electric current in the sources from the north, or through the process of occupation and sabotage by militias from southern sources.

Here, the town of Al-Obeid witnessed a new case of acute shortage of drinking water from a safe source, and due to this suffering that residents are experiencing, a creative community initiative was born from the share of certain neighborhood residents (Oil, Sharjah)

How to save water by exploiting available resources by upgrading hand pumps and installing submersible pumps and solar energy systems as an alternative to electric power. The idea was completely successful and desalination devices were even installed in the oil station.

_ In general, the evidence in this matter is that the idea was developed thanks to a number of partners, the first of which was the stakeholder, the executive administration of Shikan locality, as well as the support and support of the state government. The Environmental Sanitation Project in the state, funded by UNICEF, has been the tip of the equation in providing water to communities as it owns the assets previously invested (1987 AD). Now, after maintaining it using the same project machines previously provided by UNICEF, the water has been made available to the residents of El-Obeid, and the price of the barrel has decreased in the neighborhoods that have improved pumps from (3,500) three thousand five hundred pounds to (300-600) pounds only, which means saving money for the people while still providing water. The end result is therefore the true happiness of all citizens, especially the “husbands”.

Regardless, I believe that what UNICEF planted in the blanks in previous periods has now been harvested with the best of what was included in the studies and vision of the project at that time, so this success requires additional strengthening from the organization itself and its partners. , and my suggestions for reinforcements are as follows:_

1/ Provide additional drilling machines with high quality specifications for drilling great depths, and here we say and confirm that qualified technical personnel are present.

2/ Four-wheel drive administrative vehicles to facilitate travel in the countryside to carry out studies, excavations and developments.

3/ Drilling equipment, cisterns, water tanks and (nearby) large storage capacities.

4/ Provide a large number of submersible pumps of different sizes and their accessories.

5/ Solar panels of different sizes.

6/ Everything needed to supply water to urban and rural residents.

………………….

## Over the next few days, you will review the number of pumps that have been maintained, installed and dug in the town of El Obeid and its surroundings, with an explanation of the precise financial costs of the construction, and the contribution of society, civil society organizations and government.
