United Nations shows understanding of situation in Sudan – The face of truth – ✍️ Ibrahim Shaqlawi
Yesterday's special session of the Security Council on Sudan attracted great attention from the Sudanese, eager to know what developments would result from it, which comes following mixed expectations for the adoption of tough decisions to towards Sudan, in light of the The escalation of the conflict was triggered by the failure of the militia to quickly support… Its locally and regionally supported coup seized power in mid -April of last year.
The Security Council session ended with the withdrawal of the axis opposing the Sudanese army and government, led by the United States of America, Britain, France and some regional allies, from the draft resolution on article seven, which calls for international forces to be sent to Sudan, before the session begins after Russia and China threatened to use their veto power. As a result, it was announced that the draft resolution would be postponed until October 2025, which observers considered sufficient to change the situation in Sudan and perhaps resolve the war and restore security and peace, taking into account the widespread operations taking place in the combat and headquarters axes. imposed on the militias, which is starting to produce results.
The speech by Sudan's representative to the United Nations, Al-Harith Idris, which received wide attention and was broadcast on several satellite channels, clearly confirmed the violations committed by the Rapid Support Militia against civilians. He also explained that the flow of military support and fighters to the militias from the African coast continues and that the Adre crossing has not respected the conditions set by the Sudanese government, as it has become a point of supply for the country. militia. It is clear that Sudanese diplomacy has managed to achieve significant progress, in addition to the meetings held by President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan during the last meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, in addition to the agreements with a number of parties international and regional initiatives, which have started to bear fruit.
It has become clear that the United Nations has become more understanding, or perhaps morally obligated, to reassess the situation in Sudan. This was evident in the speech of United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who said that conditions are not conducive to sending international forces and that it is more appropriate to follow more diplomatic channels while taking measures to protect civilians. He also affirmed the Security Council's support for the protection of civilians in the country and called for the implementation of both parties' obligations in the Jeddah Declaration. He also implicitly condemned the attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces against civilians in the city of Jeddah. El Fasher in the Darfur region and Al Jazeera.
It should also be noted that the coordinator of foreign policy of the European Union, Joseph Borrell, entered the line of calm, emphasizing the need to end the massacres against civilians and to hold the perpetrators accountable, indicating that work will continue to achieve justice in the country. This comes in addition to yesterday's important visit by Dr. Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the World Food Program, to discuss the establishment of a logistics base to provide humanitarian assistance to Sudan.
Clementine Nkweta Salami, the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, also expressed shock and discontent over the repeated human rights violations witnessed in Darfur and Gezira State, such as rape, direct attacks , sexual violence and massacres. These signs which carry a condemnation of the Rapid Support Militia, in addition to this positive interest towards Sudan, push towards a new reading of the course of the war and the events in Sudan, and reinforce the hypothesis according to which new convictions are beginning to form and perhaps agreements with regional and international parties, such as condemnation of violations of the rapid support militia, solidarity and cooperation. The international conference with Sudan constitutes a positive boost for Sudan's position.
Therefore, the face of truth confirms that there are elements of a new position towards our country, perhaps closer to the green light to proceed with the resolution of the war and the restoration of security and peace for the Sudanese. This is why we must all come together to protect human rights and confront all forms of violations. We must also work to isolate all media and political supporters of the militia after the door has been wide open for them to take actions that uphold their demands calling for the protection of civilians and respect for human rights . The scene does not accept the gray attitudes towards the brutal violations that the militias are committing in the villages of Al-Jazeera, Darfur and Khartoum State by indiscriminately bombing citizens.
May you always be well.
