We will return to the land of good people – Mawazanat – ✍️ Al-Tayeb Al-Makabrabi
The above title is the name of an initiative launched several months ago aimed at returning Sudanese residents of brotherly Egypt to their country if they wish to return home…
The initiative as an idea is not new, and some have been thinking about returning for a while, and everyone has been waiting for the discussions in the groups, the salons and the meetings to translate into a living reality that allows those who wish to return to their homeland to return safely, especially those who arrived illegally and are not allowed to leave by official routes upon their return…
Like others, we heard about initiatives like this and read, and many were waiting that, God willing, I would be added to a WhatsApp group with the above name (We will return to the land of good people), where I began to communicate with those responsible for the initiative until I met one of them face to face last night, the first Thursday…
In accordance with a prior appointment, I met with Brother Muhammad Al-Muatasem, one of the two people leading this initiative, to find out from him the truth about the matter from the idea, the creation and the process until now…
Brother Muhammad Al-Mu'tasem told me that the initiative rested on their shoulders, his colleague Muhammad Suleiman Muhammad Ali and others, and that they are now all working impartially to serve their compatriots who wish to return, especially since the situation has changed a lot, so that security has returned to some areas of Khartoum, and the standards and reasons why some of them came to Egypt have changed, the prices of goods and services have changed, and the value of the Sudanese pound has decreased, which has created pressures that have forced many people to review their accounts and decide to return to the country.
My interlocutor, Muhammad Al-Mu'tasem, said that they received an initiative from the Egyptian armed forces and the decision to extend the period of reconciliation of the situation, and that they decided to take advantage of this period to facilitate the travel of those who wish.
They created groups on the WhatsApp application that those who wanted to return could join, and then other small WhatsApp groups were created, each group listing the names of the passengers on the specified day for the train journey from Ramses Station to Aswan and from there to Abu Simbel, where each would go to the 116th Division of the Egyptian army, which would drop them off at the designated locations, give them three meals, and then buses would be prepared to take them to the border.
In short, this is the safe and secure way back thanks to this initiative… but that's not all about the initiative…
From my follow-ups within the group, I learned that these young people provide the value of the tickets and sometimes all the travel expenses for those who are unable to provide the value and the return expenses home. So I asked about the entity or entities that provide these amounts, and the answer was that it is again thanks to donations from people who announce their donation and we ask them to come to the station to book the tickets themselves and deliver them on time to those who are unable to pay the value and who wish to do so. Al-Mu'tasim also revealed that a Sudanese woman residing abroad sponsored tickets for a whole month for those who wished to return and were unable to pay the price of the tickets, and she kept her promise.
What is needed, my friends, is for our embassy in Egypt, in coordination with the Egyptian authorities and with these young and many financially capable people of our country in Egypt, to assume the responsibility of expanding this initiative to the rental of Egyptian buses that pass from Cairo directly to the crossing points in accordance with the requirements of the Egyptian authorities in order to reduce travel time and to include: This return is a mechanism to transfer part of what people have acquired here, including furniture and the construction of houses, especially since they lost everything there, and it is more appropriate for them to return what they acquired here in order to obtain compensation for what they lost.
We hope that this initiative will receive the attention it deserves and will turn into a Sudanese return organization or institution that works for the return of all those who wish to return to their country from neighboring countries and all countries where Sudanese people have taken refuge because of this war…
May God help everyone
