A pitiful message, dripping with pain and anguish, that I received from a citizen of Hajar al-Asal, in the Nile State, not far from the ancient Shendi. It has become “permissible” for the rebel militias to enter at will, to rage. to rob and kill, and to leave as if mocking the “fragility” of security in the area and the silence and spectacle of the official agencies of the locality.
