Zakat in North Kordofan and solutions to water shortage in Al-Abyad ✍️ Al-Zein Kandowa
_ The city of El-Obeid is the capital of the state of North Kordofan. Since its establishment in the previous centuries, its main feature of insoluble problems has been the crisis of thirst, or what is recently called acute water deficit.
When solutions came in the 70s and 80s, citizens drank from the train that brought water from Kosti and from the wells of (Al-Khawaji Kryaku – salty taste).
– According to the stories – when a child or an old woman found a sip of water, it was as if she took possession of the world and everything in it.
When the situation improved relatively in the early 1990s, water was delivered from the Sidr basin (the Bara aquifer) in addition to the southern sources (Baqara, Al-Ain and Banu). Therefore, the Kosti train stopped transporting water, but the transportation was interrupted. The gap remained, because in reality crisis traders appeared who actually contributed to the worsening of the crisis, even after Maulana Ahmed Muhammad Haroun took power in the state in 2012 and expanded the water projects in Al-Obeid according to (the slogan of Al-Nafra / water, road, hospital). However, we see that the water gap in Al-Obeid remained wide (and water instead of entering the houses through … The net and the pipe, it continued to enter through the door). through disguises and carrots) and the whites remained like this, until the cursed war (April 15, 2023) came, and forced everyone to think outside the box, hence the idea of the locality of Shikan in the state of North Kordofan linked to the Siqa program A community initiative was born and it was launched in the presence of the director. The executive of the locality, Mr. Abdel Nasser Abdullah Muhammad Saeed, has two sites, one in the oil district and the second in the Doha district. because the initiative aimed to contribute to solving the thirst crisis in Al-Abyad, as the southern water sources became out of service due to their occupation and sabotage by the Rapid Support Forces militias, as well as the exit of the northern sources due to the fluctuation of the electric current. And the presence of militias around it became a threat to its operation.
In these difficult circumstances, and due to the success of the initiative and its dissemination within the community of El Obeid and the involvement of philanthropists and civil society organizations that contributed to its success, the Zakat Office in North Kordofan State and its Secretary, Mr. Musa Yusuf also entered, in coordination with the Director of Zakat in Shikan locality, Mr. Faisal Hussein Ibrahim, and huge sums of money were donated to rehabilitate a large number of pumps, as the number of wells fully disbursed by the Zakat Office (40 wells) exceeded forty wells.
These wells have practically contributed to reducing the price of water due to their abundance in different neighborhoods. For the first time in the history of Al-Obeid, citizens do not complain about the water crisis in the neighborhoods, and the price of water increases. the lowest (the movement of disguises stops and the movement of quaro between neighborhoods decreases).
_ In general, the Zakat office in the locality of Shikan and in the state of North Kordofan has managed to contribute effectively to bridging the severe water shortage in the city of El Obeid. The last site was opened on Tuesday, September 3 of the year (2024). ), was the site in the Qalaa neighborhood, south of the Triangle of Thirst, as it is called by the residents of the neighborhood and neighboring neighborhoods, and according to the information provided by Mr. Faisal Hussein Ibrahim, Director of Zakat in Shikan, the financier. the cost exceeded seven million Sudanese pounds and was fully paid by the office.
_ Of course, this success in the irrigation program supported by the Zakat Office and several other parties has prompted others, such as (Eco Sudan Organization for the Fight against Drought and Desertification) and others, to think positively about installing an additional fence on each pump. an area of one acre, a little less or more, in order to grow all types of water vegetables for all seasons (autumn, winter, summer) to ensure food security for families in the neighborhoods and transform the society into a productive one. to achieve self-sufficiency by providing healthy food varieties, free from fertilizers and pesticide residues, and to combat the extremely high prices in the vegetable markets, the Zakat Office at the state level and the locality of Shikan are a key partner in these new ideas. as they will target the pumps in the neighborhoods and schools.
_ Therefore, the success of the Zakat Office and the political and executive will of the North Kordofan State Government have given everyone positive energy to think more positively about the revival of the nation, because providing water is the reason for absolute happiness and a decent life.
May you always stay safe,,,
